Long Division Calculator
Every step written out, just like your school notebook — quotient, remainder, and all.
How Long Division Works — The 4 Repeating Steps
Long division is just four steps repeated until you run out of digits: Divide → Multiply → Subtract → Bring down. Enter any dividend and divisor above and watch each cycle written out exactly as you would do it on paper.

Frequently Asked Questions
Divide the first digits of the dividend by the divisor, multiply the result back, subtract, bring down the next digit, and repeat until no digits remain. The calculator above shows every one of these steps written out.
The quotient is how many whole times the divisor fits into the dividend; the remainder is what is left over. For example, 47 ÷ 5 gives quotient 9 and remainder 2, because 5 × 9 = 45 and 47 − 45 = 2.
Take more digits from the dividend until the number is at least as big as the divisor. The calculator handles this automatically and shows a 0 in the quotient where needed.
No — division by zero is undefined in mathematics. The calculator will ask you to enter a non-zero divisor.
